Contrast Cards - Card Making for Fathers Day

Are you still looking for that special card to give on Fathers Day? Card making has never been easier with this lovely and quick idea! The Fathers Day card will look really striking if you use strong contrasting colour and simple patterns!

Contrast cards are quick and easy to make and you can easily adapt the idea by changing the shapes and patterns. On top of that, most of us will already have the material used at home - so it could just be the perfect last minute gift!

This project is also very well suited for smaller children who will enjoy drawing a pattern onto the paper and glueing it together. They will probably need your help with the cutting, though, to avoid accidents.

Fathers will definitely love them!

Time needed:

30 minutes

What you need:

  • 2 pieces of A5 card in contrasting colours (use A4 if you want it larger)
  • pencil
  • scissors
  • glue

1. Fold one of the pieces of card in half. Fold it along the longer edges - this will be the basis of your greeting card.

2. Cut a piece half of the width of the first part out of the contrasting paper. Have a look at the picture - this should make it clear how to do it.

3. Use the pencil to draw shapes and patterns onto the second piece. Make sure that you draw images that are easy to mirror. Use the scissor to cut it out and make sure you save all the pieces!

4. Stick the second piece to the left side of you greeting card. Use the cut-out pieces to mirror your pattern and glue them on.

You can use all kinds of phantasy shapes to create phantastic contrasts. Shapes that look the same on both sides are especially good to use - why not make one using a house?

Do you want to add a little gift to your contrast card? Have a look at our idea for a paperweight. Dads will love having something to keep all those letters together!
