Origami Chicken

An origami chicken can make a lovely decoration for your table at Easter. They are quick and easy to make, just follow our step-by-step instructions. You don't necessarily need origami paper to make them, you can use square coloured paper - just make sure you can fold it easily.

Time needed:

30 minutes

What you need:

  • 3 pieces origami paper 13cm x 13cm (different colours)
  • scissors
  • glue
  • pencil
  • hole punch

1. Fold one square from corner to corner so that you have a triangle. Open it up again, then fold it the same way using the remaining corners. Open it up again.

2. Fold both sides towards the middle line.

3. Turn the paper over and fold the lower tip towards the upper one so that both tips meet.

4. Turn the paper over again. It should now resemble a ship. Fold it in half.

5. Gently pull both tips until you it resembles the shape of a hen. Push it down firmly on the table.

6. You now have one open and one closed corner. Fold the open corner in so that you get a smaller triangle - this will be the beak.

7. Draw the head onto a differently coloured piece of paper and cut it out. Glue it onto the body.

8. Finally glue a round eye onto the body - you can use the hole punch for this. If you want, you can add a white pupil. Alternatively, draw the eye on with black felt tip pen.
