Handmade Christmas Decorations

Handmade Christmas decorations are ever so special and great fun to make. We will show you several ideas how to decorate your house at this special time of the year.

Our Christmas craft ideas for kids start with a suggestion for some  window craft - stained glass craft using tissue paper. Just follow our step-by-step instructions for some lovely window decorations.

Stained Glass Window Craft

This is only one way to create a stained glass effect using tissue paper. However, what I really like about this way of doing a stained glass project is that it doesn't make any mess at all as we are not using any glue!

Time needed:

30 minutes including preparation time

What you need:

  • card
  • tissue paper in various colours
  • sticky backed paper
  • scissors
  • pencil

1. Cut out the frame from card.

2. Cut the tissue paper into small squares or rectangles.

3. Cut a piece of the sticky backed paper a little bit bigger than your frame.

4. Remove the plastic and stick the frame onto it. If you are working with younger children who are still impatient and likely to lose interest, prepare this activitiy up to this point.

5. Now you can enjoy sticking the tissue paper onto the sticky surface without making a mess!

6. ... and if there are any spots not covered it will just stick to the window even better!

Origami Christmas tree

This is a great little project for children of various ages - a toddler will happily help you decorate the tree while a preschooler or older child will love help you fold the tree!

Time needed:

30-40 minutes

What you need:

  • 3 pieces of green A4 paper
  • glue
  • glitter and other decoration

1. Fold the green paper following our instructions how to make an origami hat.

2. Glue the three hats together so that they resemble a tree.

3. Thinly spread some glue over it and decorate it with glitter, stars, small pompoms and tissue paper etc.

Done!
