Marble Painting

Marble painting is a lot of fun and the result greatly vary each time you do it - it will never look the same which makes it very interesting for everyone.

All you need is marbles, paint and a container. You could frame the results or make some homemade cards to give away on special occasions. It's a great preschool crafts activity but also possible to use as a toddler activity.

Time needed:

10-20 minutes

Version 1: marble painting using a tube

What you need:

  • clean tube with a lid (e.g. empty crisps tube)
  • red, yellow, blue paint
  • paper or card
  • marbles
  • spoons
  • small container

1. Put each colour into a different container.

2. Put the marbles into the colours - about 2-3 each.

3. Put the paper into the tube.

4. Add the first marbles into the tube and close the lid. They should only be lightly coated with paint for the best result - you might have to water the paint down a little bit.

5. Shake the tube.

6. Remove the marbles, then add the next colour and follow the steps.

7. Do the same thing again one more time.

8. Carefully remove the paper from the tube and leave to dry.

Version 2: with a box

What you need:

  • a box or containter the size of the paper you would like to use
  • red, yellow, blue paint
  • paper or card
  • marbles
  • spoons
  • small container

1. Put the paper or card into the box/container.

2. Add the marbles to the paint - about 2-3 for each colour.

3. The marbles should be lightly coated with paint, you might have to water it down to get the best result.

4. Add the first marbles to the box and slowly move the box to make them roll around.

5. Take them out again and add the second colour and so forth.

6. Let the paint dry.

Done!

There are advantages to both versions - just try and see which one you like best!
