Toilet Paper Roll Crafts

All you need for our lovely toilet paper roll crafts ideas are empty cardboard tubes, some coloured paper and some glue. These paper craft ideas are quick and easy to make but look lovely put up around the house.

This pretty butterfly is made from material that most people will have at home already, so it's the perfect project for a rainy day. These colourful animals will look lovely in every kid's room - hanging off the ceiling and swaying in the wind!

Time needed:

30 - 45 minutes

What you need:

  • coloured paper
  • pencil
  • ruler
  • empty toilet paper roll
  • coloured pipe cleaner
  • some wool
  • coloured card
  • glue
  • scissors

1. Cut out a rectangle of coloured paper and glue it onto the toilet paper roll - this will become the body. You can also use double sided sellotape instead of glue.

Most toilet paper rolls are 10 x 18 cm. Use the ruler and the pencil to draw a rectangle onto coloured paper.

Alternatively, paint the toilet paper roll in your preferred colour.

2. Cut out the wing shape from the piece of card and decorate it. You can make the wings as colourful as you want them to be!

3. Glue the wings onto the body and carefully bend them slightly downwards.

4. Make four holes: one into the back and three into the head: two for the antennas next to each other and one further back to hang it up afterwards. Make sure an adult helps you with this!

5. Use the coloured pipe cleaner and pull it through the holes in the head - bend the antennas a little bit at the end.

Use the wool and thread it through the holes in the back and tie into a knot. You can make it as long as you want to hang it up in your room and let it fly!

Another great idea to recycle a cardboard tube and create some toilet paper roll crafts projects is this ladybird.

Time needed:

30-45 minutes

What you need:

  • empty toilet paper roll
  • red card or paper
  • black card or paper
  • glue or double sided tape
  • red or black pipe cleaner

1. Cut out a rectangle of black paper and glue it onto the empty cardboard tube.

2. Cut out the wings out of red paper and decorate it - you can either use the black card or simply draw the line and dots on.

3. Make two holes in the head and put the pipe cleaner through. Shape it so they look like antennas.

Halloween Bat

Time needed:

30 minutes

What you need:

  • empty toilet roll
  • black card
  • white paper
  • wobbly eyes
  • scissors
  • glue (double sided sticky tape)

1. Cut out a rectangular piece of black card and wrap it around the toilet paper roll.

2. Glue it on - it's easier if you use double sided sticky tape than liquid glue which takes longer to dry.

3. Cut out some wings to stick onto the back as in our example.

4. Stick on the wobbly eyes.

5. Finish off by adding some sharp teeth cut out of white paper!
